Our kohanga opened in 1984 to support our whānau, contribute to the revitalisation of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and nurture our future generations.

HAUORA SERVICES
Te Tauihu Māori health provider Te Piki Oranga is based here at the marae and offers a wide range of hauora services.

PAKAKĀINGA AND KAUMĀTUA FLATS
Six Kaumātua Flats were opened in 1992 to provide low cost and secure housing for Kaumātua and re-establish Te Āwhina Marae as a pā. To ensure their longevity and ensure our Kaumātua are as comfortable as possible, upgrades were completed in 2024.
Our new 20-home Papakāinga, completed in 2024, offers 20 low-cost rental homes for whānau.
MĀRA KAI
Our māra kai has emerged from a forgotten corner of the marae to become an essential place of learning and connection and a rich source of healthy kai for our whānau. To find out about our next māra kai wānanga, or to get involved, email our māra kai co-ordinator.
